Good Morning Moreton Bay! Let’s talk about election signage!
Yesterday after work I had a meeting with a local print designer for election advertising material and it comes as no surprise to people but the amount of signage, how to vote cards and in your face advertising you are allowed is just out of control. Did you know a Mayoral candidate can display 300 disposable plastic signs as well as how to vote cards, tv/radio advertising, websites, social media, advertising on shirts, business cards, car stickers, etc. Some of which also have time restrictions on their display or distribution. There is no denying that the idea of roadside advertising signage does have advantages but there is a lot to consider when it comes to deciding how you advertise. There is a lot of legislation about the design, the material it is made from, the placement around the region, the timing with which you are allowed to display different types of advertising, not to mention requiring public liability insurance on roadside advertising. Some of which must be authorised and approved before you are able to distribute them. That is a lot of time and money spent on something that goes in the bin because the law does not allow them to be displayed after the election. I am genuinely undecided on the path of advertising I take because while I know it has some advantages, I personally do not like the idea of contributing to the excess wastage we see in elections. Read the local laws here - https://www.moretonbay.qld.gov.au/…/Licences…/Election-Signs Let’s hear your point of view when it comes to advertising in elections. #MBRCMayor2020 #Timeforchange #Doingitdifferently Parking in and around the Redcliffe Hospital has been an issue for far too long. While they are finally building the hospital there is no guarantee it will change the parking in neighbouring streets due to the cost of parking. I have only had to deal with this a year but neighbours have put up with this for 20+ years. Ignored by local council, the hospital have no jurisdiction over this, the local member is also only offering lip service. Everyone tells me to get them towed but it just doesn't seem right nor does it solve the problem. One gets removed another parks in its place. Imagine having to deal with this everyday and being told too bad just be careful leaving your driveway by everyone who is meant to uphold the local laws. Being a citizen of the region who has had their issues fall on deaf ears is what has lead me to run for council. Here we go again.
Sandstone Point Hotel has submitted a Tourist Park Extension for an additional 124 sites. http://pdonline.moretonbay.qld.gov.au/…/Appli…/default.aspx… Our council is in limbo with so many conflicts of interest even voting on lunch comes with its own set of challenges and yet the Sandstone Point Hotel is attempting to expand again despite a large number of objectors to their previous application change to raise the number of major events as well as holding multi day events to be classified as one major event. I started a facebook group (Moreton Bay Area - Rants, Raves & Traffic) which was originally for the residents of Sandstone Point who were feeling ignored and bullied in this area by big businessmen and the very council they elected responsible for their homes. I know because I was one of those objectors who did not accept these terms of change yet like always felt like my opinion fell on deaf ears. This quickly gained the attention of those big businessmen and their associates and before long I was in the firing line for not being a supporter of the changes. A ‘NO’ uttered with the deepest conviction is better and greater than a ‘YES’ merely uttered to please, or what is worse, to avoid trouble. No more extensive development at the Sandstone Point Hotel site without being held responsible for the negative impacts to the area such as the environment, the residential neighbouring properties who never thought they would have an open air concert arena next door or the rest of Bribie Island and Surrounding Area which is suffering as a result of these approvals prior to the road infrastructure being upgraded. If this is something you disagree with please be sure to make a submission to the Moreton Bay Regional Council before the close of business on the 10th of February 2020. “The care of human life and happiness, and not their destruction, is the first and only legitimate object of good government.” - Thomas Jefferson #Vote1Porter #TheRealIndependantChoice #StandUpandBeHeard It is with great pleasure that I have announced my Candidacy for Mayor of Moreton Bay Regional Council in the March election.
This has been a dream of mine all my life. I have no developer connections and no friends in high places. I am just a single mum who has decided to chase her dream of making a difference in her beloved community. I was born in the Redcliffe Hospital and was raised on Bribie Island. I have lived in many different areas of our council and will always call this area my home. I am not going to pretend to know it all about the inner workings of the Government but it is time Local Councils held the State and Federal government accountable for their responsibilities within our region. We are in control of town planning and the road infrastructure simply has not kept up with growth. Enough is enough. It's time for a real change in our council. #Vote1Porter |
